Apostille of an FBI Identity History Summary Check (FBI Background Check)
The FBI Identity History Summary Check (often dubbed as the “FBI Background Check”) is a background check that provides information on all arrests and arraignments, reported to a federal agency, across all the United States of America.
An FBI background check apostille is a requirement in most petitions that request permanent residency in a foreign county or for employment in private foreign sectors. They may also be required for other international procedures.

FBI Background Check
FBI Background Checks are issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Applications can be started online and fingerprinting can be done at your local participating USPS office (if inside the USA). You can begin your application online at https://www.edo.cjis.gov/#/.
The apostille is issued by the US Department of State. The record must be physically mailed to them once the record has been obtained.
Third party agencies do NOT have access to same-day emergency appointments. Please head to the US Department of State website to request a same-day emergency federal apostille appointment if you require a federal apostille within 2 weeks.
Apostille Requirements for an FBI Background Check
Your background check must be the original record that was mailed to you or emailed to you. Plain or “xerox” copies are not accepted.
FBI watermark must be present in background of record. Copies will not present watermark.
Some countries require the FBI record to have been issued within the past 3 months (90 days). Please ensure your record complies with any requirement regarding the issue date. The US Department of State themselves do not have said requirement.
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements will result in a rejected application from the US Department of State.

True Copy Apostille
What if my record does not comply with the above requirements?
What if I do not want to give up my original record? It’s my original record!
Or what if I simply no longer have the original record and obtaining a certified copy will take months? I need my apostille now.
Global Apostille Group can provide a “true copy” apostille of copies of your record. We can attach an affidavit to your document, certifying the record as a true copy of the original, and notarize the affidavit. This process bypasses the need to have the original, as the apostille will certify the notary’s signature, not the signature on the official record. The apostille of this notarized true copy will be done in New York State.
Before opting for this process, please contact the authorities who are receiving your document if they will accept the apostille of your document via a notarized copy. If the country of destination:
Requires the apostille to certify the official signature of the record,
Will not accept a notarized copy of your record, or,
Requires the apostille to be issued by the official Department of State where the document was issued (i.e. if your document is from the State of Virginia, the apostille is from Virginia).
If any of the above apply, please obtain a correct, certified copy of your record prior to submitting for apostille.
