New York Requirements

Apostille Requirements for a New York Transcript

New York educational records must generally be certified by the issuing institution and properly notarized before proceeding through the state apostille process.

School Certification

An authorized official from the educational institution must certify that the transcript is an official record or a true copy of the institution’s academic record.

Notarization

The school official’s certification must be signed and notarized by a properly commissioned New York notary public.

County Clerk Authentication

The notary’s signature must then be certified by the County Clerk where the notary is qualified before submission to the New York Department of State.

Transcript Apostille FAQs

Does my transcript need to be notarized? +
For a New York transcript, an authorized school official generally certifies that the record is official or a true copy, and that official’s signature is then notarized before apostille processing.
Can an electronic transcript be apostilled? +
An electronic transcript may require additional certification from the issuing institution before it can be used for apostille. A standard downloaded or printed copy is not automatically sufficient. We recommend having the document reviewed before processing.
Can you apostille a transcript ordered through Parchment? +
Possibly, but ordering through Parchment alone does not necessarily satisfy New York’s apostille requirements. The record still needs the appropriate school certification and notarization before it can proceed through the authentication process.
What if my school does not provide notarization? +
Contact us before altering or notarizing the transcript yourself. We can review the institution’s procedures and determine whether an appropriate certification method may be available.
Can you apostille both my diploma and transcript? +
Yes. Diplomas and transcripts may both be processed when each document has been properly certified and notarized by the issuing educational institution.
Does my transcript need County Clerk authentication? +
For New York educational records, the notary’s signature generally must be certified by the County Clerk where the notary is qualified before submission to the New York Department of State.
Can you apostille transcripts issued outside New York? +
Yes, we may be able to assist with transcripts issued in other states. Certification, notarization, and apostille requirements depend on the state where the educational record originates.
Does the destination country matter? +
Yes. The receiving university, employer, licensing body, or government authority may impose its own requirements regarding sealed transcripts, translations, document age, or authentication. Those requirements should be confirmed before processing.
